Winemaking begins in the vineyard.  The terroir, that gives wine grapes their particular character, has a strong foothold in the Amador wine region. The Amador region is known for amazing wines, specifically red varietals.   

During the 19th century there were more than 100 wineries before prohibition. During that time Mission grapes were planted in the 1850’s, followed by Zinfandel shortly after the end of the civil war, making these vines some of the oldest in our country. TKC Vineyards is nestled in the heart of the quiet Amador County wine country.  Amador County is truly a hidden gem and so is TKC, as it is buried into a hillside located off the beaten path.

We started making wine in 1981, making us one of the original seven wineries after prohibition, of which only two of us remain.   Since 1993 we have been growing incredible grapes that are perfect for the region: Syrah Noir, Mourvèdre, and Cabernet Sauvignon (clone 7); all these grapes love this terroir for the iron and schist soil, warm days and cool nights and the east to west orientation of our vineyard to capture the sunlight. Our vineyard is located at 1510 foot elevation, the vines are head trained and dry farmed which results in smaller grape clusters with more intense fruit flavors.
